Writer : "Injury. short story"

I feel as if I am flying. Soaring down the hill on my bike. Like a shadow of an eagle, floating down the street. I look back. I cannot even see my friend Ella, I am winning the race! I look forward and close my eyes. When I cannot see, I feel the illusion of really flying. I smile and smell the fresh air, my eyes still closed. A gust of wind blows my hair. I open my eyes. A car is coming toward me. It takes me a minuet to realize what is happening. Then I realize, a car is coming toward me when I am going full speed down a hill! I panic. I silently curse myself for not reminding my Dad my break doesn't work right! I suddenly don't know what to think. I am so scared I can't even think. In less than a minuet I went from flying to probably crashing. I force myself to stay calm. My hands feel slick on the handlebars
The car continues to come toward me, almost in slow motion, but still fast. I am about 4 feet from the car when I impulsively Yank the right handlebar. I swerve sharply. The car just misses me. But at that moment my bike crashes too its right side. I lift my head away from the asphalt. But I cannot stop the rest of my right side from slamming against it. My leg burns with pain. My knee immediately feels damp with blood. My shoulders hit the ground a second later. My shoulders feel scraped. My side aches of pain. I feel helpless as I lay in the street, only able to embrace the searing throb of injury.
“Mia?!?!?!” I hear Ella call desperately. I don't dare lift my head. I try to yell back but it comes out in a weak moan. As Ella approaches me, I wonder how often birds soar then crash as easily as I did.
