Bird-watching is a new hobby of mine, and I've noticed so many new birds since I started. It's great! I get a lot of birds in my garden, because I have a big tree at the back of it. So now I always like to keep my binoculars nearby in case I see an unusual bird. I remember when a heron flew into the garden, and he stood there and gulped down a huge goldfish! (He must have caught it from someone's pond.) A very surprising experience!

Each fall we have thousands of big white tundra swans come to stay on the river until the river freezes. Then they migrate to the East Coast or to Central America. The largest pool where they loved to rest and feed is now filled in with silt from the farm fields. There still are lots of birds on the River but it is hard to see them now from the highway. I think birds are the sweetest thing that God made, besides people.

In Chile we have just a few colured species, one of them, is the woodpecker,and I had the chance to see them (which is not that common) two years ago in the Cordillera, near a volcano called Chillán, where we go to enjoy thermal waters.
