About horse slaughter

Horse Slaughter. This is a touchy subject. Especially a blog thats PRO-SLAUGHTER. I'm going to show you what USED TO happen at the slaughter plants here in the US BEFORE they were shut down. And what happens to horses now that they are shut down. Now I'm not saying that I like slaughter. But you can't take it away though.

The way it used to be in the USA

O.K. Lets start from the beginning. A foal is born right? O.K. Lets say its a paint or Appaloosa. Those people breed for color color and color. A foal is now born. But, oops, no color! We wait till the foal is old enough to be taken away from mommy then ship them to the auction.

Now were at the auction. (see picture)The kill buyers come along and buy them, by weight, and ship them to a "feed lot". At the feed lot they get all they want of grain hay and water. After they are fat they go to the slaughter plants. There they go into the shoot. They shuffle them forward, one by one, and a giant hammer comes down with out them knowing it, without them feeling any pain.

And allot of times the kill buyers buy the horses fat and ship the straight to slaughter.

Now you may be thinking that that sounds kinda mean, cruel, abusive. Well then, lets go through that again now that the US plants are closed.
Now then, we will start with Mexico.

The process starts the same foal thats unwanted or fat horses that no one wants.

Auction.

Sometimes feed lots.

Longer drive. Sometimes by 4 hours or more. Then the peple run them into the chutes. The method used to kill horses in most of the clandestine plants in Mexico, (all over the country) is by stabbing them in the spine until they are disabled. Then they are strung up from their hind legs and their throats are slit. Most of them are skinned even if they are still alive. Some others are put into a box to immobilize them and stab them to death. The "puntilla" method appears to be standard at older slaughter plants throughout Mexico.

And remember, you people wanted the "AWFUL" hammer to stop. What ya going to do now? Wait don't say anything till we have covered Canada!
O.K. now for Canada. Canada uses a bolt gun. The captive bolt gun proves to be ineffective in stunning the horse on the first try. Horses endure botched slaughters repeatedly.
The bolt gun must be used on a precise spot on the horses head to be effective. How many horses do you think stand still? So then if it doesn't get the right spot, it doesn't kill them. But it still hurts them. (remember MR.Hammer who was fast and painless?) So now you have a horse on the ground thrashing around in pain. So then they also get there backs jabbed with a knife till there parallelized, parallelized not dead, and drug off and butchered.

by now you want to stop the shipping to Canada and Mexico right well....read on then.
Lets say you people get a law going that says you can't ship to Mexico or Canada. Now theres unwanted horses. Theres so many horses that theres not homes for all of them. So some good person goes to an auction and brings home about 15 horses. and puts down a third of them and retrains the other 5. Now you rant and rave about how AWFUL it is that she put them down. Well then lets go back to being in the horses' point of view. Theses horses are now very cheep to buy because its farther to transport them and gas is high. So now its cheaper to buy a horse and ride it, literally to death, maybe resell it. Than it is to take the horse home buy hay, grain, provide shelter, and the energy to provide water vet care, deworming, and farrier(hoof) care. They take the horse back to auction and get another. And YES this is happening. MILLIONS of people are doing this. Theres more people doing this than are getting horses because they love them.

So don't go around closing the slaughter plants and making laws to ban horse shipping. Theres nowhere to go with these poor horses. BRING BACK the slaughter plants here in the United States that did, and will do, with out pain to the horses. Thanks to you guys it was painless to the horses. But you went to far by closing the slaughter plants.
