Black rhinos are large African animals that are critically endangered. There are only approximately 4,200 rhinos left surviving. Adult rhinos stand at 4-6 feet high, and they measure 10-12 feet in length. They also weigh between 1000-3000 pounds.

Rhinos are hunted by poachers for their horns. Between 1970 and 1994, 96% of black rhinos were wiped out by poachers. In addition to poaching, rhino populations are fragile because females only have a single calf every 2-3 years.
