Ayu Bowan ! Hello ! Welcome on my blog. My name is Lucile, I am 15 years old and I am from France. I am French but I love Sri Lanka. This is my first blog and I'll show you a wonderful country called Sri Lanka or Ceylon.

Sri Lanka is an island near India. Its surface is of 65610 km2. Sri Lanka kept 3 languages from its History : Sinhalese, Tamil and English. The population is of around 20 000 000. The politic capital is Sri Jayawardenapura but Colombo is the economic capital, located in the West of the country. Many landscapes compose Sri Lanka : beatches or again mountains in the center of the Island.

Sri Lanka is one of the biggest producer of tea in the world, after China and India. Then, Sri Lankans often drink some tea. It's a little as the "National drink". But it also produces coconuts, rubber, rice, cocoa, jewels, sapphires and phosphate.

Religions of Sri Lanka are Buddhism ( around 70% of the population )...

...Hinduism ( around 15% of the population ), Islam ( around 8% of the population ) and Christianity ( around 7% of the population ).

This is my first penpal by snail mail. Her name is Sindhuri, she's 16 years old and she's from a city called Kandy, located in the center of Sri Lanka. Today, she's really a good friend for me and she taught me many things about her country. Thanks ^^.

The tsunami has touched around 800 000 Sri Lankans on the 26 th of December 2004 : - 38 000 people are dead. - 500 000 people were moved. - 80 000 houses were destroyed or damaged.

You shouldn't forgot that there's a civil war in Sri Lanka for many years : between the Tamil terrorists and the Sri Lankan government. For the moment, there would have around 65 000 dead.

Peace in Sri Lanka.

This is an Indian group called Bharati. The assistance is guided by a brief but twinkling perceived of stunning Indian cultural wealth. It is the journey which makes us discover treasures hidden from this vast country. Its geographic, linguistic, historic and philosophic variety, its people and uncountable traditions were of use as ingredients to the composition of the various pictures which are presented to us. We are seduced by this magnificent meeting with India and the spectacle shows itself at once funny and intriguing. It would be necessary doubtless more than a life to visit India and Bharati gives us a delicious before taste the time of a musical spectacle.

Many ricefields compose the Sri Lankans landscapes because Sri Lanka is the 19th producer of rice in the World.

"Rice & Curry" is a traditionnal dish of Sri Lanka. It is composed of meat, fish or vegetables, and contains coconut. It is cooked in a sauce with curry.

Elephants are sacred in Sri Lanka : In Pinnawala, there is an orphanage which welcomes many elephants. Elephants are sometimes used to transport goods.

Anuradhapura is one of the ancient capitals of Sri Lanka, world famous for its well preserved ruins of the Great Sri Lankan Civilization. The Civilization which was built upon this city was one of the greatest civilizations of Asia and in the world. The city now a UNESCO heritage site, lies 205 km north of the current capital Colombo in the North Central Province of Sri Lanka.

Sigiriya is an archeological site in Central Sri Lanka. It contains the ruins of an ancient palace complex, built during the reign of King Kasyapa. It is one of the seven World Heritage Sites in Sri Lanka and is one of its most popular tourist destinations.

This is the tooth relic temple of Kandy. In this city, there is a tooth relic of the Buddha which is the object of a very popular feast which takes place in the day of the birthday of the Buddha.
