Party in the USA

"I was born with an enormous need for affection and a terrible need to give it."
First post! This is really exciting for me. I've been a member of SOTW since I was seventeen years old--almost five years ago! I was always completely fascinated with other countries' cultures and learning more about the people who live there. But you can only learn so much from books and movies--actually talking to people from these countries I've dreamed of and hearing of their experiences first hand is truly and incredible experience. I'm so glad that I've gotten the chance to get to know so many international friends, from France to Turkey to China! I have created friendships that have lasted and I am so eager to create more. I hope that I, in turn, can help people learn more about the American lifestyle, our cultures, and what it's really like to go to an American university.

I hope to blog pretty frequently, but with my hectic schedule and school and work, I might get a little behind. But I hope that I can keep it interesting for anyone out there who is reading and would like to know more about America, Michigan, the American college experience, sororities in the US, or anything else I happen to write about!

But first, a little bit about myself! I'm a college student from Michigan. This is my junior year in college and I love it so much! I go to a university that I really love and I'm really involved in campus life. I'm in a sorority on campus. For those of you who don't know, sororities are social organizations for undergraduate students. We have meetings with our "sisters", can hold leadership positions, organize philanthropy events that benefit the community or a specific cause, create bonds with fraternities (sororities for guys) on campus, and really make the most out of our college experience. I'm involved with a lot of other orgs on campus, including a lot of orgs that relate to my major: history! I've always really loved history and when it came time to decide what to study at school, my choice was definite. I know I might not end up making as much as my Computer Scientist boyfriend, but I'll always be happy doing what I love!

American colleges can be either exactly what you expect or nothing like you expect! For instance, I'm definitely not partying it up at frat houses every night of the week. Ain't nobody got time for that! Being in a sorority, we must maintain a certain GPA (grade point average) to keep in good standing, and as Vice President, I definitely don't want to mess that up and let my sisters down. But there are always those good nights for a fraternity Bid Day party or a tailgate when we do have tons of fun and great school spirit. It's a great way to bond with all of your classmates while cheering on our team! GO BLUE!

Like any sorority girl, I love Lilly Pulitzer and bows, but I also am a huge tomboy when it comes to sports. I love it all, from college football to basketball, hockey, soccer and tennis. Unfortunately I was not blessed with athletic genes and can only play tennis even marginally well, but I still enjoy watching and going to sporting events! Luckily I was given a few more skills for dance and theatre, both of which I've performed ever since I was young.

So, there you have it. A little more about me. But probably the most important thing to know about me is that I love to meet new people and I hope to meet you soon! Don't ever be a stranger. I love talking to everybody. Send me a quick email and I'll get back to you from there!

I hope to update more soon! Thanks for reading my introduction and I hope to hear from you!
