Lilypie Expecting a baby Ticker

Lilypie 6th to 18th Ticker
The Blues-Nothing Is Sound album

Is this the New Year or just another night?
Is this the new fear or just another fright?
Is this the new tear or just another desperation?

Is this the finger or just another fist?
Is this the kingdom or just a hit n' miss?
A misdirection, most in all this desperation

Is this what they call freedom?
Is this what you call pain?
Is this what they call discontented fame?

It'll be a day like this one
When the world caves in}3x

I'm singing this one like a broken piece of glass
From broken arms an' broken noses in the back
Is this the New Year or just another desperation?

You're pushing till you're shoving
You bend until you break
Till you stand on the broken fields where our fathers lay

It'll be a day like this one
When the world caves in}6x

There's nothing here worth saving,
Is no one here at all?
Is there any net left that could break our fall?

It'll be a day like this one
When the sky falls down and the hungry and poor and deserted are found
Are you discontented? Have you been pushing hard?
Have you been through and down this broken house of cards?

It'll be a day like this one
When the world caves in}3x

Is there nothing left now?
Nothing left to sing
Are there any left to haven't kiss the enemy?
Is this the New Year or just another desperation?

Just as I could find you, do the wicked never lose?
Is there any honest song to sing besides these blues?

And nothing is okay
Till the world caves in 5x
Until the world caves in 6x

The Shadow Proves The Sunshine

Sunshine, won't you be my mother
Sunshine, come and help me sing
My heart is darker than these oceans
My heart is frozen underneath

We are crooked souls trying to stay up straight,
Dry eyes in the pouring rain well
The shadow proves the sunshine
The shadow proves the sunshine

Two scared little runaways
Hold fast to the break of day light were
The shadow proves the sunshine

Oh Lord, why did you forsake me?
Oh Lord, don't be far away away
Storm clouds gathering beside me
Please Lord, don't look the other way

Crooked souls trying to stay up straight
Dry eyes in the pouring rain well
The shadow proves the sunshine
The shadow proves the sunshine

To scared that I'll run always
Hold fast to the break of day light were
The shadow proves the sunshine
The shadow proves the sunshine

Yeah Yeah, shine on me
Yeah Yeah, shine on me
Yeah Yeah, shine on me
Yeah Yeah, shine on me

Crooked souls trying to stay up straight
Dry eyes in the pouring rain well
The shadow proves the sunshine
The shadow proves the sunshine

To scared that I'll run always
Hold fast to the break of day light were
The shadow proves the sunshine
The shadow proves the sunshine

Yeah Yeah, shine on me
Yeah Yeah, shine on me
Yeah Yeah, shine on me

Shine on me,
Shadow proves the sunshine

24-Switchfoot

Verse 1
24 oceans ,24 skies
24 failures ,and 24 tries.
24 finds me in 24th place
with 24 dropouts at the end of the day.
Life is not what I thought it was-24 hours ago,
Still I'm singin spirit take me up in arms with you.
And I'm not who I thought I was 24 hours ago,
Still I'm singing spirit take me up in arms with you.
Its 24 reasons to admit that I'm wrong.
With all my excuses, still 24 strong
You see I'm not coping out, not coping out, not coping out-
when your raisin the dead in me.

Chrous

Adding To The Noise

What's it gonna take
to slow us down
To let the silence spin us around?
What's it gonna take
to drop this town?
We've been spinning at the speed of sound.

Stepping out of those convenience stores,
what could we want but more more more?
From the third world
to the corporate core
we are the symphony of modern humanity.{Yeah}
If we're adding to the noise
turn off this song.
If we're adding to the noise
turn off your stereo, radio, video...

I don't know
what they're gonna think of next
genetic enginers of the most high tech.
A couple new ways
to fall in debt.
I'm a nervous wreck but I'll bet
that that T.V. set
tells us what we want{ed} to hear
But none of these sound bites
are coming in clear.
From the third world to the corporate ear
we are the symphony of modern humanity{yeahh}
{If we're adding to the noise
turn off this song.
If we're adding to the noise
turn off your stereo, radio
If we're adding to the noise
turn off this song.
If we're adding to the noise
turn off your stereo, radio (Repeat stereo, radio 5 times)
If we're adding to the noise
turn off this song.
If we're adding to the noise
turn off your stereo, radio

If we're adding to the noise
If we're adding to the noise
If we're adding to the noise
turn off this song.}

This is what the lead singer of Switchfoot, Jon Foreman wrote about their song Stars: "Any system which is free of external influences becomes more and more disordered with time. This disorder can be expressed in terms of the quantity called entropy." " So without some sort of external influence on the social plane, I find no logical reason why humankind didn't see her last day a long time ago. Call it grace or love or anti-entropy- there must be something keeping things together. The question becomes, why do good things happen to bad people? In the song, the first verse looks at things from Descartes perspective, pinning the center of the universe on the individual. "Maybe I've been the problem," maybe I'm overcast, falling apart, etc... The second verse talks about our world from the perspective of the stars looking down on earth from the eternal dance of gravity and motion. I love the night sky. It reminds me of how small and insignificant i and my problems are in light of the infinite. When I look at the stars i feel like myself. " He's looking up at the Stars at something greater than himself, and it makes him a better man - it makes him feel himself. This is all about having a divine influence and how it makes us all better people.

'Dare You Move'
This song is about a man at different stages of his life. It's a Christian theme of how we all stumble upon hard times in life, and he dares us to move and get back on our feet. It's about how there's a difference between who we are and who we should be.
This was originally released in 2002 on the A Walk To Remember soundtrack. However, the song didn't gain popularity until it was re-released on The Beautiful Letdown in 2003. (thanks, Bill - Topeka, KS)
this is what Jon Foreman said about Dare You To Move.
I love to write songs; I've been at it since I could reach the piano. It's one of my favorite ways to pass the time. Music helps me sort out who I am so my songs usually end up being somewhat autobiographical. I've always felt the deepest connection with honest songs so I try to write with sincerity. This song is an attempt to honestly face the gap between who I am and who I want to be; between the way the world spins and the way it should be. I've heard that we only use a small part of our brain. Maybe our soul is the same way. And maybe we're half asleep most of our lives, simply reacting to the stimulus our brain receives. Action, true action is rare indeed.

'Lonely Nation'
Jon Foreman says that this track picks up where "Meant To Live" leaves off: "There is hope for meaning and truth in this life but it probably doesn't come in the form of a corporate slogan. We, the target market, want more than this world has to offer." (thanks, Sara - Union, OR)
he also said'Desperate times call for desperate measures. Over the course our time on the road as a band I have met so many amazing, beautiful, desperate, lonely people. We are the lonely nation. We are the disenchanted, the disillusioned- we are the remnant of lonely souls wanting more than anything that we can buy with this cold, hard cash. I wrote this song while we were playing a stretch of rock radio shows. I'd walk around near the back and just breathe in the loneliness- masses of lonely, scared kids. I remember thinking about the irony. Here you have this connected generation of online communities, IM, TM, myspace, and cell phones that grows more and more lonely every day. This is a song is still yearning, saying, "Don't settle, please, don't give up. Fight for only the true and the beautiful!"
We wanted to start the record with this track because we feel that this song picks up where Meant to Live left off. There is hope for meaning and truth in this life but it probably doesn't come in the form of a corporate slogan. We, the target market, want more than this world has to offer. This is a song where tim and chad drive the verses and the guitars take the chorus. We've played this song many times live and refined it quite a bit from it's original state. There's nothing like playing a new song in front of real people with real opinions. The people at those shows, (the extended switchfoot family), they shaped this song as much as anyone.'

Lonely Nation lyrics

She turns like the ocean
She tells no emotion
She's been gunning down the fight

She's just reminicing
Blood, sweat, and one thing's missing
She's been breaking up inside, inside

Singing without tongues
Screaming without lungs
I want more than my lonely nation
I want more than my lonely nation
Desperate we are young
Separate we are one
I want more than my desperation
I want more than my lonely nation

We are the target market
We set the corporate target
We are slaves of what we want
We're just not amused
And we're just used to bad news
And we are slaves of what we want

Singing without tongues
Screaming without lungs
I want more than my lonely nation
I want more than my lonely nation
Desperate we are young
Separate we are one
I want more than my desperation
I want more than my lonely nation

Lonely, lonely

Don't leave me hollow
I'm tired
Don't leave me hollow
I'm tired of feeling low
Feeling hollow
I'm tired of feeling low
Feeling hollow
I'm tired of feeling low
Feeling hollow
I'm tired of feeling low
Feeling hollow
Feeling hollow
Feeling hollow

Singing without tongues
Screaming without lungs
I want more than my desperation
I want more than my lonely nation
Desperate we are young
Separate we are one
I want more than my lonely nation
I want more than my lonely nation
I want more than my lonely nation

This is what Jon said about Meant To Live
A while back I read a TS Elliot poem called "The Hollow Men." The imagery in the poem continues to haunt me: "we are the hollow men/ we are the stuffed men..." I look at our planet and I see a horrible, beautiful world... where love and hate breathe the same air. This is where we wake up everyday; this is where we live. Maybe the kid in the song is me, hoping that I'm bent for more than arguments and failed attempts to fly. Something deep inside of me yearns for the beautiful, the true. I want more than what I've been sold; I want to live life.

Twenty-Four

Jon Foreman:I wrote this song near the end of my 24th year on this planet. Wherever we run, wherever the sun finds us when he rises, we remain stuck with ourselves. That can be overwhelming. Sometimes I feel like my soul is polluted with politicians, each with a different point of view. With all 24 of them in disagreement, each voice is yelling to be heard. And so I am divided against myself. I feel that I am a hypocrite until I am one, when all of the yelling inside of me dies down. I've heard that the truth will set you free. That's what I'm living for: freedom of spirit. I find unity and peace in none of the diversions that this world offers. But I've seen glimpses of truth and that's where I want to run.

The group was founded in 1996 by Jon and his brother Tim, along with Chad on drums as Chin Up. After only a handful of shows, they were signed by Charlie Peacock to re:think Records as "Switchfoot," a surfing term meaning to shift your feet on the board to take a new stance facing the opposite direction.

The band released three independent albums, The Legend of Chin ('97), New Way to Be Human ('99) and Learning to Breathe (2000), which turned out to be their first gold album, selling 500,000 copies. The band was signed by Columbia Records, which put out 2003's The Beautiful Letdown, selling two million albums in the U.S. alone and producing two Top 10 pop and Modern Rock singles, "Meant to Live" and "Dare You to Move." Last year, the band put out Nothing is Sound, which debuted at #3 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart, and promptly went gold, yielding the radio hit "Stars."

Coming off three hit records in a row, the band approached their new album, Oh! Gravity., with a quiet confidence and a desire for musical growth. Their first move was hooking up with veteran U.K. producer Tim Palmer.

"He was just a great person to come along and assist us with the goal we were attempting to achieve," says Jon. "A good producer doesn't project his dreams upon you. He's a good listener more than anything else, and that was what Tim brought to the sessions."
