Future Diplomats Education Centre

In 1998, the Director of VOLSET FOUNDATION Festus and other dedicated stakeholders began supporting children to attend school. By 2004, he was able to increase the number of children receiving sponsorships with the help of international volunteers. In 2007, Festus and other members started seeing a problem with the primary schools that received these sponsored children.Too many of these schools were more of money minded other than the child welfare. As a result, we no longer felt comfortable sending these children to such unhealthy settings and they decided the only solution was to create a school that would facilitate a safer, more progressive learning environment. Future Diplomats Education Centre primary school opened its doors to the children in 2009.

Kristen, a recent college graduate from America interned with Volset during the summer of 2011 to finish her BS in Community Health Education. While serving the Ntenjeru community, she sought to create a long lasting sustainable impact with the children of Future Diplomats Education Centre. Thus leading to the establishment of Future Diplomats Education Centre Foundation registered as an NFPO in Washington, USA.

Future Diplomats Education Centre is a rural local school for children of age 3 to 13 years. Main focus is on vulnerable and orphaned children. The second focus is on needy children. Creating a conducive study environment for these children is among the major objectives. Attracting volunteers to serve as teachers or promoters is very vitals.

Aside from providing a home of safety and security, another key benefit to the construction of the dormitory will be to allow these children to focus on their schoolwork. Most children must bear the responsibilities of returning home after a long day at school to fetch water, gather firewood, or take care of younger siblings which leaves no time for their studies and puts them at risk for dropping out and perpetuating the cycle of poverty.

The construction of new dormitories for boys and girls was started in 2011 with support from Pettet family. Roofing was funded by the Merion Selwood(late) family friend. Children were more eager to join the other constructors with the construction by doing the little work they could find.

This dormitory will house 66 orphaned and vulnerable students! As of June 2012, the project is just $4,000 shy of completion! The remaining donations will complete the floor and walls of the boy's section, paint the interior and exterior walls, install windows, furnish all 66 beds and mosquito nets, and provide a solar power system!

Once the dormitories is done, Future Diplomats Education Centre Foundation (USA) will strive to bring in sponsorships to the children of Future Diplomats school, so that they will no longer sacrifice their educations and futures when their families cannot afford to send them to school.

Volunteers are welcome to serve in areas of teaching English and Mathematics, hands-on construction and renovations of school buildings, fundraising and one-to-one child care
