Mercury is the second smallest planet in the solar system, the only one smalller is pluto. Mercury's size is just about the same as our moon's size,. It is the closest planet to the sun, and it is so hot that it could melt a tin pan! It travles around the sun faster than any other planet, and that is how Mercury got it's name, from the quick messenger from greek mythology. It can be seen before sunrise or sunset from Earth, you might wanna check that out. Don't try to see it in the middle of the night through your telescope, because you won't have much luck. The reason is because Mercury always appears near the sun from Earth, and the sun, is not out at night. It's atmosphere is very thin, and we could not survive there. Mercury has a lot of holes and craters from asteroids crashing into it.

This is Venus, the second closest planet to the sun. It is also very hot, but not as hot as Mercury
