County schools are facing major budget cuts. Teachers’ salaries are being frozen and class sizes will be growing. Are you a sports fan? Well, because of these budget cuts some Prince William County schools will either eliminate or require you to pay a fee if you want to participate in sports. Are you still not sure what you want to be when you grow up? Well, there is a possibility that they will get rid of electives in high school so it may be harder for you to find out what you really want to be.
This concerns me because I personally am indecisive on a career. By the time I get to high school and want to take an elective to help me on my decision they will no longer be available all because of the budget cuts. Do you see how this one action can affect so many of us in the future? You know how so many people are complaining about childhood obesity? Well if we get rid of sports then there is a large possibility that there will be more of it because more children will be less active. As you see, budget cuts are not only going to effect teachers, but will also have a larger affect on students now and in the future.
We could help this situation by getting rid of trailers that many schools in Prince William County have. Most of the time these trailers are rented by schools which is more money that must be paid. Another thing that would help would be if instead of building more fast food places, restaurants, and stores, they could use that money towards the schools. During an economic crisis like we have now, every decision we make can and will have a major affect on people now and in the future, and that is why it is so important for us to make the right decision for our county and our schools.
