High School Musical follows the story of Troy Bolton, the popular basketball team captain, and Gabriella Montez, a shy, smart girl who just moved to New Mexico. The two shared a duet at a New Years Eve party while they were both on vacation, and when they came back to school they realized that Gabriella had just joined Troy's school. The two want to audition for the school musical, but Troy is afraid of what his basketball friends will think, including his best friend Chad. Gabriella's new friend Taylor will do anything to make sure that Gabriella joins the Scholastic Decathalon team and not participate in the musical. Plus, Sharpay and Ryan Evans, the two siblings who have starred in every school musical, are determined to do anything to get the roles.
