Personal History—
Although Jacob’s sisters knew Bella when she was younger, Jacob meets Bella at First Beach in La Push while he is with his friends. He introduces himself and they go for a walk, where Jacob tells Bella the Quileute legends about the “cold ones” and the wolves. After they meet, Billy brings Jacob over to Bella’s house from time to time when he visits Charlie. Billy convinces Jacob to warn Bella from dating Edward in exchange for the remaining car parts he needs to finish his Rabbit.
When Edward leaves Bella, Bella visits Jacob with two motorcycles and asks for his help fixing them. Jacob works relentlessly on them and has them both finished in record time. Jacob takes Bella out and teaches her how to ride the motorcycles. Bella and Jacob become very close friends during this time. When Bella asks him to go to the movies with her friends, he drives Mike Newton and Bella. On the way home, Jacob feels sick and goes back to La Push. Unbeknownst to Bella, Jacob starts his change into a werewolf. He follows the guidance of Sam during this time, but is very angry at the change because he thinks it means he will not be able to be Bella’s friend.
When Bella confronts Jacob, he initially tells her he is not good anymore and they cannot be friends. (New Moon, pg. 272) He comes to her house that same night, though, through her window and tells her he intends to keeps his promise to her to not hurt her. Although he cannot tell her his secret, he tells her to remember all of the stories he told her that day at First Beach.
When Bella figures out that Jacob is a werewolf, she goes to La Push to confront Jacob about being a killer because she wrongfully thinks the werewolves are killing people in the forest. Jacob learns that Victoria is after Bella because Edward killed James, and he tells his pack. When Paul starts to change, Jacob changes and fights him to protect Bella. When they return to Emily’s, the pack decides to hunt Victoria.
One afternoon, when Jacob goes on patrol, Bella decides to try cliff diving. Jacob dives in the water in just enough time to save her. He brings her back to the shore and revives her. When Jacob drives her home, he senses a vampire close by. Alice is waiting for Bella and Jacob sprints off after telling Bella he hopes she doesn’t die. (New Moon, pg. 380)
Jacob returns to Bella’s house to warn her that the pack cannot protect Bella while Alice is staying with Bella. Just as Jacob leans in to kiss Bella, the phone rings and Jacob answers it. He tells the caller that Billy is at the funeral and the caller tells him it is Dr. Carlisle Cullen. (New Moon, pg. 413) Alice comes into the room after the phone call and informs Bella that the caller was Edward and he is now planning to go to the Volturi because Jacob said Charlie was at the funeral. Once Bella returns from Italy, Jacob brings back her motorcycle and Charlie grounds Bella indefinitely. Before he leaves, Jacob reminds Edward about the treaty and reiterates that anyone bitten by a vampire would cause the treaty to end.
Although Bella tries to contact Jacob, he ignores her requests. When Bella leaves for Florida, Jacob calls Charlie many times a day asking for her to call him back as soon as she returns. He is afraid that Edward has changed her into a vampire. Jacob goes to Forks High School and confronts Edward about Emmett crossing the boundary lines. Jacob knows that Edward can read his thoughts, so he purposefully thinks about how bad Bella was after Edward left her.
Bella goes to visit Jacob a few times when Edward is off hunting. During one trip, Jacob brings Bella to a bonfire where she hears all of the Quileute legends. During another trip, Jacob tells Bella he loves her and kisses her. Bella is so upset that he would do that that she ends up punching him in the face and breaking her knuckle.
Soon after, Jacob goes to Bella’s graduation party and gives her a bracelet with a wooden wolf on it. Before Jacob leaves, he learns that Victoria is amassing a newborn army bent on killing Bella. Jacob insists that the werewolves help and the Pack decides to help the Cullen family fight.
Before the fight starts, Jacob carries Bella to a secret location in the mountains to try to hide her scent. When a snowstorm hits, he shares a sleeping bag with Bella to protect her from the cold. After he leaves the tent, he overhears Bella and Edward discussing their favorite nights, and one of them deals with the night Bella agrees to marry Edward. Jacob runs away and only returns after Edward brings him back. Before he leaves for the fight, Jacob kisses Bella and makes her realize she loves Jacob, but not as much as Edward.
After the fight is done, Leah finds another newborn and Jacob pushes her out of the way before she is attacked. The bones on Jacob’s right side are almost all crushed when the newborn gets his arms around Jacob. Carlisle examines Jacob and helps him during his recovery. Bella visits Jacob and Jacob realizes that Bella is not going to be able to stop loving Edward and he sees that she will not be his. After he recovers, Jacob turns into a wolf and runs into the wild trying to leave everything behind him after seeing Bella’s wedding invitation.
Jacob returns during the wedding and dances with Bella. When he finds out that Bella and Edward are going to attempt to have a real honeymoon, he starts quivering and has to be taken away by Seth and Sam.
When Bella returns from her honeymoon, the pack hears that Bella is claiming to have a disease and is keeping Charlie away, so they fear that Bella has been turned into a vampire and the treaty has been broken. Jacob wants to go and fight right away, but Sam orders everyone to wait until they have more information. Jacob heads over to the Cullen house anyways, and he sees that Bella is pregnant.
When the pack learns of Bella’s pregnancy, they decide to attack the Cullens. Jacob and Seth break off from the pack and protect the Cullens from harm. Jacob becomes the Alpha in the new pack that includes Leah and Seth. He promises Edward that the treaty will remain intact if Edward saves Bella from death.
Jacob is with Bella when she goes into labor and even fights off Rosalie when the blood becomes too much for her. Jacob leaves, though, when he thinks that Bella is gone and nothing is left to do. Before he can leave the house, though, he goes to look at Renesmee and imprints on her.
Jacob spends all of his time with Bella and Renesmee, whom he nicknamed Nessie. When the Volturi plan to come to Forks, Bella creates a passport for Jacob and Vanessa Wolfe, so Jacob can take Nessie to South America to keep her safe. He does not have to take her, though, because the Volutri are stopped and he is able to watch Nessie grow and be happy.
