Rose Tyler - Billie Piper
Rose Tyler was the first companion after the Doctor Who break. She met the Doctor whilst working at a department store, as she was being attacked by autons (manakins come to life). The Doctor told her to run, and just as she got to the other side of the road, the department store blew up. The Doctor then came to her flat, and together they fought the Autons. Since then, no one has had a connection with the doctor quite like Rose.
To me, Rose will always be the Doctor's lover, and no one could ever replace her. Not even the Doctor's wife: River. So why did Rose leave? She got sucked in to a parallel universe whilst helping the doctor save planet Earth, and after she was sucked in, the doorway between the universes shut. Forever.
Well, until the universe started collapsing a few series later. Yes, at the end of series 4, Rose came back (yay!). But it wasn't an uneventful episode, Donna managed to make herself part time-lord, and create another doctor that was part human. This new 'part-human' doctor was exactly the same way the Doctor was before he met Rose: "full of blood, anger and revenge", so Rose lives with the part-human doctor in a parallel universe. but, as Donna said, its better than that. The part-human doctor will die, so Rose and the part-human doctor can grow old together, and die together. Something the real Doctor could never give her.

Martha arrived soon after Rose left, meeting the doctor at a hospital in which he was a patient. When the hospital got transported to the moon, Martha kept her cool, even when she had 3 aliens in the room she was stood in, she fought hard, bought the Doctor back to life just in time to save everyone else. As a thank you from the Doctor, Martha was promised one trip in the TARDIS, to anywhere in time and space. They went on a trip to old Britain and met William Shakespeare, and fought the carrionites. She continued to travel with him, and went to:

Then, it was time for another emotional farewell. Her time with The Master, had her family improsined, and nearly killed because of her alliance with the Doctor, in the year that never was. Right from the start Martha made her love for the doctor clear, but he never saw her as more than a passenger and she hated seeing him daydreaming about Rose. She didn't want to live her life being second best, and she knew this relationship wasn't going anywhere. "the thing is, it's like my friend Vicky. She lived with this bloke, student housing, there were five of them all packed in, and this bloke was called Sean. And she loved him. She did. She completely adored him. Spent all day long talking about him. He never looked at her twice. I mean, he liked her, but that was it. And she wasted years pining after him. Years of her life. Because while he was around, she never looked at anyone else. And I told her, I always said to her, time and time again, I said, get out. So this is me, getting out. (She throws her mobile phone to him.) Keep that, because I'm not having you disappear. If that rings, when that rings, you'd better come running. Got it?"
Martha's last words to the Doctor:
"I'll see you again, Mister!"
And so she did... |
