Hey, buddies. I'm 17 yrs old high school student of Korea. First of all, I haven't decided what to do in the future so I'm looking for what I'm interested in or what I'm good at. Soldier, this is a job that I'm interested in. Maybe I like history so I'm interested in wars which are most likey to be the WWII. Y'know, military things like guns, uniforms are awesome so I think soldier is an attractive job for me.

Hi, I'm not sure if it's the same in South Korea but in America women can join the military but can't have active combat rolls. So if I were you I would find something you like to do like if you want to be on a ship and sail around join the navy (as long as your not clausterphobic or get seasick easy). You can be a secratry, nurse, supply officer etc.

I don't know much about the Australian DF but in most other militaries around the world you can enlist in the army and be a doctor. So if you are interested in enlisting and then pursuing a medical career after your service why not just combine your interests and enlist as a medic? Just a thought!

Hi!
I'm a thirteen year old, and I have a strong interest in the military. I'm thinking about joining the military but I'm very embarrassed to talk about it to my family. They usually don't think that I'm that "manly"... but...

I'm thinking of joining NJROTC when I get to highschool, but I'm not sure how to tell my mom and sister. I need advice. :(

I also don't know why I have such an urge to join the military. Plus, I feel that it is odd that I am Chinese and other people will feel somewhat racist towards me.

Good luck

Okay, first of all, whether you r manly or not, it's okay to be a soldier if you really want to. And you said you don't know the reason why you have a such urge to get into a military, right? It's fine. Because I also want to be a soldier but I don't know either. Maybe it'll be the repect for the soldiers nowadays. Finally, racism? I don't know about the racism in America, but the most important thing is just IGNORING them. Just don't care what they're about to talking about you. I'm sorry my English is bad so I couldn't give you the right or good answer for you but I just wanted to help you to feel more confident. Have a nice day, pal.

You shouldn't be embarrassed about join the Armed Forces, I've already contacted my local recruiter, and set up dates to Enlist into the US Army for the 11B Infantry after i finish high school. You don't have to be strong or "manly" to join the forces either. There are plenty of other jobs in the military. Be open with your family, do research and follow your dream. It's usually the people that have an unknown urge to joint aht end up being the best soldiers anyways. Also on the note of ROTC, JROTC, or NJOTC; These programs are amazing and will bring out your ability to lead bit by bit. I highly recommend taking these programs if you plan to enlist, as well as looking into programs to become an officer if you want to go to college. I'm currently a Cadet First Sergeant in Bravo Company in my battalion, and I'm already on the roster for Cadet Battalion Commander, these programs are a blast, and really change your life.

While you are correct in the sense of equality, having women on the front lines could prove unsuccessful. As the guy that replied before, the men will rush to aid the women, causing more commotion and causing the men to be a better target. While I don't question the power of women in the military, some men will. Prejudice will end up forming, which may lead to deaths inside a military base based on hate.

19857 -
modify delete 25320 - Reply from Broc42 , 16 yrs (USA) - 2013-11-30

While i don't believe women should be in the front lines, I do have a good reason for it. I don't doubt the ability of women on the front line, but I do believe their use should be limited on the front lines. The issue with women joining the front lines is that snipers tend to look for easy targets to pick off. A woman who's hit in the leg by a sniper is going to draw in more attention from male soldiers than a male soldier that's been hit, making for more easy targets for the sniper.

On the other hand, women would also have to get used to being treated physically equally, meaning they might be beat up in training, screamed at by Drill Sergeants and treated the same in combat with no exceptions.

So I suppose there's no problem with women being on the front lines as long as she expects no special treatment and has to pass the same standards as the male soldiers.

soldiers just follow orders, the government tells them where to go, what to shoot at, and how to conduct themselves, in all honesty the us government is so jacked up and ruined, but the military is the most honorable thing you can do for your country (any country) and soldiers dont just protect interests so get your head out of your ass, they also protect the country for foreign threats like al-queda and isis. so dont be one of those hard headed pricks that thinks the military is a joke because it isnt, the military is what built the country and what protects you because think about this, if we had no military, where do you think you would be right now?

19848 -
modify delete 20337 - Reply from Broc42 (USA) - 2013-02-03

Although this maybe true, I wouldn't say it's the soldier's fault. The government of the nation that soldier belongs to is the only one that it to be at fault for the actions it makes that soldier perform.

Well since to enlist you need to pass the ASVAB with a sufficient grade high enough to get field medic as your MOS, I think that you would need to greatly improve your grammar prior to taking the test. As a woman you will not be able to obtain the position of Field medic as it is a combat job. Even though you want on the front lines, tough luck, your a woman and not allowed to hold a combat position. I would advise if you want anything to do with medical personnel, you might want to look towards the medical corp of the USMC or Navy if those are the two branches you are focused on. In addition make sure you are physically fit as well as that will be the major decider to if you are even eligible to join the armed forces.

in my opinion, you should earn your way to an officer rank. for example, i want to go into the military but everyone says i should go to school so i could go in as an officer and get a higher pay grade but thats not me, i dont care about the money, i want to go in as a normal enlisted then make my way through the ranks just like everyone else. and then make it to the officer rank later in my military career, because i think that a good leader should have the field experience as well as leadership knowledge.

I think both positions require great amounts of bravery. A front line fighting soldier is in immediate danger and is under pressure from the enemy and helping his battalion, company, squad, etc. On the other hand, an officer is under pressure because if he makes one mistake he unintentionally kill hundreds of friendly soldiers. So truly there is no way to measure which takes more bravery.

Although world peace would be great, all soldiers wanted to lay down arms and stop fighting, this would be impossible to achieve. It would be great if everyone could get along, but if soldiers didn't exist then there would always be that one rogue dictator, or country, or world leader who wouldn't even hesitate to take that opportunity to invade other, unready nations.

I'm a JROTC Cadet Staff sergeant in Alpha Co. under the Husky Battalion, 8th Brigade.
A few things that might help you understand JROTC would be:
First off there is no requirements to join other than having to want to try in the course, and not goofing off. JROTC isn't strict, but it can become pointless to someone if that person chooses to not try their hardest in the course. The JROTC Program is designed to help young people to become better citizens, and requires a decent amount of devotion. The uniforms are being changed in a year or two to the current Blue/ Gold army Class A Uniforms similar to those most Sergeant Majors wear.

Soldier - "Why I want to be a soldier"

I want to be a soldier because I've had alot of military background. My grandfather was in the air force and then got transferred to the navy. My Great grandfather was in the army air corps and was a B-17 Machine Gunner. His brother, my great great uncle, was on Omaha beach and took part in the D-Day invasion. Another reason is because I want to if nessacary give my life for those who suffer

Soldier - "US Military"

I want to be in the Marines when I'm older. The reason being is because I want to defend our country and make things right for the future. I don't want fame or fortune, I want to help my country become a better country, and risk my life for those who suffer.
GO US MILITARY!! YEAH!!!! THE US MILITARY RULES!!!!
